Other Hardware Items


We recommend using a tray-fed laser printer. Our software is compatible with laser and inkjet printers, if driver support is available for the associated operating system. We do not recommend specific printers, nor do we guarantee that all printers will work with our software.


  • We recommend using only scanners purchased from ACS Technologies.
  • The MICR Image Reader works only with the desktop version, and the Windows 8® drivers for this check scanner are not yet available.

Video and Sound Cards

We require at least 32 MB of video memory.

For all modules, we recommend a 17-inch monitor, which are designed at 96 dpi. Wide screen monitors may cause modules to look different than they do on a 17-inch monitor, unless dpi settings are modified.

Internet Considerations

As ACS Technologies moves more of our products and services to the Web, we recommend a high speed internet connection. While an Internet connection is not required for using the basic features of the HeadMaster desktop products, some features are not available without an Internet connection. These features include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • HeadMaster Online
  • Downloading product upgrades
  • Some documentation

ACS Technologies requires installation of Internet Explorer® 8.0 or later to view Help topics. However, Internet Explorer is not required to be the default browser.

Network Requirements

HeadMaster can be installed and operated on a dedicated server or on a peer-to-peer network. We do not recommend Internet-based servers, nor do we support them.

Wireless Networks

HeadMaster 10.0 and higher can function properly in a wireless environment. However, due to the wide variance of connection speeds, the performance and reliability of the HeadMaster software can be negatively affected.


Microsoft End-of-Life

HeadMaster adheres to Microsoft's life-cycle policy for operating systems. As a system approaches its end-of-life date, HeadMaster recommends upgrading your operating system. Once an operating system is no longer supported by Microsoft, we can no longer support that system. This does not mean that products will not work on a retired operating system, but it does mean that, should a problem occur that would require an update for a retired operating system, we cannot provide support assistance for clients using those operating systems.
